No Timetable for Hatboro Firehouse Completion

Despite a contractor being more than 16 months behind on Enterprise Fire Company's roughly $900,000 expansion, Hatboro officials told Patch that they have "no time table" for its anticipated completion.

The borough's volunteer firefighters had hoped to make use of the 2,500-square-foot two-story expansion in . 

But, this week, Enterprise Fire Company President Chris Gowen said "it's still under litigation." Gowen said he did not know when contractor Mark Gill from Titanium Inc. would wrap up review of the punch list of outstanding items borough officials were working to reconcile in October. Officials said Gill has had the two-page list of issues in need of resolution since August.

"The punch list is extensive," Gowen said.

Borough Council President John Zygmont declined comment on the matter and referred questions to borough attorney Christen Pionzio.

Pionzio, through email, told Patch that she has "no time table" regarding the project's completion and said "hopefully we will have that in the very near future."

"The borough is in active communication with all the parties involved regarding the construction of the firehouse and its completion," Pionzio said. "It is important that the fire company have use of the much needed addition as soon as possible."

For his part, Gill has said previously that the project would conclude once he received final payment.

 of the total construction cost, as was decided in May following  not following state-mandated procedures for grant reimbursement and failing to complete needed paperwork.

Prior to its start in early 2011, the project had been approved for a $500,000 state funding match in addition to the $500,000 borough match. Officials had speculated that ongoing issues with the project may have compromised state funding, but Pionzio said that is not the case.

"The cooperation between the borough and the Commonwealth is ongoing showing no negative effects by the delay," Pionzio said.
