Hatboro Honors Longtime Scout

The Hatboro Borough Council recognized longtime scoutmaster Bob John for his 40 years of service.

Hatboro Mayor Norm Hawkes presented John, who retired last year after four decades as the scoutmaster of Hatboro Troop 3, with a distinguished service award.

Hawkes also had a proclamation at the ready for Ed Galing, the borough's poet laureate. But, Galing, 96, through a letter written to Hawkes, declined attending the council meeting.

"I already have enough awards for my humble work," Galing wrote in the letter, which Hawkes read. "I know that you all care about me. Hatboro does not owe me anything at all. It’s the other way around. Hatboro is my hometown always."

Hawkes said he planned on presenting the proclamation to Galing at his home.
