ReplyEnough is enough. The five kids who live in the neighborhood near this park will not wait another day for the playground equipment! Farnen spent six years of his life fighting to raise funds for the eight pieces of equipment for this god forsaken project. It is critical to the welfare of northern Hatboroites that this park be upgraded immediately. My child is one of the five who play there once and a while.

ReplyHalf of what people are crying about have already come and gone. Coffee shop? Where were you when we had them in the past? Last one at York and Byberry not too long ago..Daily Grind..remember them? Why didn't they make it? Why did the Old Mill Inn go out of business (prior to flooding) yet the pizza shops are making it? Health/Organic foods..what happen to McCourt's Farm to Table? All gone..for a reason. You got regular whiners bad mouthing Cash 4 Gold and Roll Your Own and the tattoo shop at York and Byberry because he doesn't like their signs, but openly supporting and complementing another tattoo shop because he has tattoos and likes their signs. Most of the posters on this site lately are using it as a bully-pulpit in an attempt to force their belief system on others. Or they're smoking something. I can't believe the audacity of people who think they have the right to bad mouth a store like Aarons because it will attract lower income types (previous poster's words) or others who think a store specializing in health foods and herbal remedies is the order of the day. Get a clue! None of you people have the right to dictate what type of business is welcome in our town or what type of people move here. Uncle Sam's green dollar and what people in this town are willing to spend it on will dictate that. Most of you are a day late and a dollar short. Newsletter...great idea...wow! Yup, had one of them before too. Why weren't you reading it then?

ReplyAll you people (both sides of the coin) keep bringing up census stats., etc. The stats you keep fighting about are completely flawed and I think anyone with an ounce of common sense realizes it. First off, according to the same sites/stats, Hatboro has seen a population DECREASE of 3.2% between 2000 and 2009. Really? Yet the town has seen an increase in housing by several hundred units (a couple single family homes, Moreland Crossing, Victorian Village, Hatboro Lofts, and Cobblestone Court). These stats are off because of a demographic shift in this town. For example, I would venture to say the household median income cited above is reflective of our homeowners....the folks who respond to the census and surveys. I doubt it is accurate or even remotely reflective of our apartment dwellers, a large portion of our population. A lot of these folks don't respond to surveys or the census (or report income accurately on tax records) or our population would not have dropped 3.2% during the last 10 years while housing units have significantly increased. We have a quickly increasing Hispanic population, and yes, we have numerous apartment complexes now housing section 8. These stats are inaccurate garbage, or I would not be doing maintenance work in 2 bedroom apartments that have four mattresses in each bedroom and another four in the living room. Or the apartments that have just mom, three ADULT kids hooked on heroin, and nobody working.

Voice...It's not like they could get sued by some property owner after they sabotage some million dollar deal. Including the legal costs and all the costs associated with sitting on a vacant property and paying taxes on it too. I heard about the parlor as well. Not a big deal. Most people didn't even know about the last one we had and it was there for years, right in the middle of town. Hopefully they don't want to move into a historic or old building though. HRA won't have to say they are fighting the type of business, but that they don't want the hanky-panky happening where George Washington once slept or something.

"HRA...not telling people what to do with their property....save piece of history"....Yup, by attempting to sabotage its sale so the owner continues to be stuck with them unless its sale and subsequent use appeases HRA and suits their vision of what Hatboro should be (a pipe dream of overpriced boutiques..in old, inefficient, costly buildings, apparently). Hatboro should be what survives on its own merit. Whether it's Cash for Gold, Roll Your Own, Aarons, Wawa, or anything else that the HRA doesn't like. A business survives because it has use and worth to its residents, not because it satisfies the vision of a few dreamers. I am off to Walmart for some odds and ends. I might stop at Wawa on my way home to get a hoagie to eat as I drink my six pack of Labatt before going to bed. I am more Hatboro than the HRA.

T.K...What's rude is the fact that you and the HRA think you have the right to tell property owners who they should, or shouldn't, rent or sell to. What's rude is the fact that "the crowd went wild with enthusiasm" about a Trader Joe's and the Big Marty's building, but now complain if it might be an Aarons because that doesn't fit their vision of Hatboro (yet it does fit for others...who must be trash according to some of you). What's rude is the fact that the same few NIMBYs kept posting their opinions without challenge, but once the other side voiced up, you now complain and cry (BTW, look back at earlier posts and see how some were treated who thought the wawa might be a good idea). And I don't think the Patch is losing readers because some people disagree with you and the HRA's opinion (last known to be 65 out of approx. 8000) of what is best for us and Hatboro.

ReplyBig Marty's would make a nice, big, Pawn and Used Guns after Aarons is scared away, and after HRA defeats Wawa, a porn shop can move into one of those vacant properties. Maybe a behavioral center for troubled youths can take the other (some truth to that based on previous interest). The Old Mill will end up just a parking lot as the building is filled with mold and nobody but Wawa, thus far, has shown financial interest in saving it. OR, maybe Boro will entertain HRA and somehow buy it. They can raise taxes to maintain the mold infested mess in the flood zone. All our problems will be solved. And as long as we all support our businesses and buy a $30 dog leash in town instead of $12 at Walmart, the business district will improve.

I don't like most cops but Bob Ottey is a heck of a guy. Caught a snake for my grandmother in her basement and drove it to Nockamixon on his day off to let it go. I was on my way over to kill it but he beat me there. I told him that and after talking to him for a half hour, he convinced me that all critters deserve a chance to live their life and we all need a break once and a while.
