Old World Sausage Factory is planning to open at the former Second Fiddle consignment store.
Move over Felucca, there's a new meat market coming to town. Old World Sausage Factory is expected to open within the next few months at the 37 S. York Road space which formerly housed the Second Fiddle consignment store. Hatboro Main Street Manager Stephen Barth said the butcher style store will offer smoked sausage, bacon and hams. It will not serve foods like a restaurant, he said. According to its Web site, Old World Sausage Factory had been previously located at the 263 Marketplace in Warminster. "We are excited to welcome the Old World Sausage Factory to Hatboro as it enhances our growing 'Restaurant Row' and furthers the community's reputation as a food and dining destination," Barth said. Chris Gowen, the owner of Hatboro's A Dog's Life (And a Cat's Too) will close the store for good on Jan. 31.
Before there was Famous Footwear or the Men's Wearhouse, Chris Gowen recalls when Len's Shoe Box and Jules Pilch were the go-to shops in Hatboro. Gowen, 52, a lifelong Hatboro resident - except for his first year of life in Ambler - remembers when Victorian houses dotted the borough, Jack's Clothing, and Woolworth were situated where current borough mainstays like Cafe La Fontana currently reside. "That's when those guys ruled the roost," Gowen said, adding that he remembers decades ago when traffic cops were stationed at Williams and York roads on Friday nights helping to direct traffic. Dan 'the Mover' Mulhern and his wife, Alice, stock their new 2,000-square-foot Hatboro thrift store with goods from their moving business.
Dan Mulhern was tired of throwing away his time, money - and useable furniture and household goods. Mulhern, who owns A & D Mulhern's Moving, last month opened the 2,000-square-foot Alice's Moving and Thrift on South York Road, where the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce had most recently been housed. Inside, the store is stocked with moving supplies like boxes and bubble wrap, as well as dressers, knick knacks and other unwanted items that Mulhern clears from homes during moves. "It was more about us throwing so much stuff out," said Mulhern, of Warminster. "We felt so bad because all the stuff was ending up in landfills." York Road will be closed prior to and during Hatboro's Holiday Parade on Sunday.
If you're planning a trip to Hatboro Sunday afternoon - whether or not you're planning to attend the holiday parade - travel along York Road will not be an option. Road closures Beginning at about 12:30 p.m. and continuing until about 4:30 p.m., York Road will be closed, according to Hatboro Police Chief James Gardner. In addition, cross traffic will be prohibited during the event, which runs from 2 p.m. until about 4 p.m., he said. Restricted parking Parking will be restricted along York Road on Sunday. The Hatboro Borough Council approved a rerouting of the annual Hatboro Holiday Parade.
Taking a cue perhaps from Santa Claus himself, the organizers of the Hatboro Holiday Parade are bringing jolly old St. Nick and the more than 2,000 participants from the north for the Nov. 18 festive trek through town. The Hatboro Borough Council on Monday unanimously approved the reversal of the 52nd annual parade's route - heading southbound instead of northbound on York Road. Officials from the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce - the entity that has put on the parade for the last 36 years told the council earlier this month that the reversed route would be faster and would help with traffic congestion. The 10,000-square-foot lease-to-own store is slated to open later this month in Hatboro.
Exterior improvements continue at the future home of Aaron's on South York Road in Hatboro. The overhaul of the 10,000-square-foot former carpet store is expected to be complete soon to make way for Aaron's, a chain store specializing in lease-to-own office furniture, electronics and home appliances at the long-shuttered structure at 317 S. York Road. Aaron's franchise owner Bandy Saluja told Patch previously that the store would be open the week of September.

The Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce is requesting that the route for the annual Hatboro Holiday Parade be reversed.
Santa, Mrs. Claus and all the other holiday elves atop floats and in procession may see a new direction for Hatboro during the borough's annual holiday parade.
