How Will You Celebrate Valentine's Day?

Do your Valentine's Day plans include dinner at Cafe La Fontana in Hatboro ... or leftovers in front of the TV?

Valentine's Day is upon us. And with the impending heart-filled holiday comes the obligation, for some, to buy boxed chocolates, shiny jewelry, flowers, fancy dinners and/or more expensive ways to say "I love you." How will you celebrate in Hatboro or Horsham? Do you and your significant other plan on a big night out ... or a quiet evening at home. Is it a time to relish, or is it largely ignored in your house? Take our poll and share how you'll be spending Feb. 14. Tell us in the comments below if you have a favorite Hatboro or Horsham restaurant, go-to florist, jeweler or chocolatier.

Classic Books to Share with Your Children for Valentine's Day

From Charlotte's Web to Where the Wild Things Are, share these classic books with your children and encourage their love for reading.

“Where’s Pa Going with that Axe?” The Enduring Quality of Children’s Classics By Anita Silvey Courtesy of James Patterson's Read Kiddo Read Foundation The opening line of E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web— “Where’s Pa going with that axe?”—has now been read by adults to eager young listeners for more than 60 years. Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time and Ezra Jack Keats’s The Snowy Day have been picked up with enthusiasm for more than 50 years. For 75 years, parents have shared The Hobbit, and this year Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are turns 50. Montco Mommy

Want to Show Your Love this Valentine's Day?

For Montco Mommy, nothing says 'I love you' more than picking up your dirty socks.

Do you watch “The Middle” on ABC? I love it. I loved it more this week, when Mom Frankie and Dad Mike sit down to explain to their youngest son Brick what love is, by highlighting their Valentine’s Day plans for him (while taking down the Christmas tree, mind you). The couple goes back and forth on options of going out to eat (too crowded), the movies (they could sleep at home for free) and decide on a bucket of chicken on the couch in their sweats. To take it further, Mike likes sports, so they decide on a bucket of chicken, in separate rooms, on separate televisions, in sweats. It is a perfect Valentine’s Day plan, if you ask me. I’m just that kind of girl. I’m not a big fan of flowers or chocolates. I generally wonder even as I’m …

Your Child and Valentine’s Day

The meaning and importance of Valentine’s Day changes rapidly between elementary school and middle school.

What does Valentine’s Day mean? Seems it all depends on your perspective … and your age. My daughter is in elementary school, so as far as she’s concerned, Valentine’s Day is another opportunity to decorate the house. She loves putting the red heart-shaped doilies in the window and seeing the Valentine’s Day flag go up in front of the house. Another holiday means another party at school, too. There’s the hunt for the perfect cards to give classmates – mission accomplished with a box of Scooby Doo valentines. Then there’s the anticipation of treats and some games in class. All in all, it’s all about fun. For our middle school son, it’s a different story. He has little interest in decorating the house and no school activities are pegged to …

Patch Poll: Best Place to Take Your Valentine

What do you think is the best place to dine in Hatboro and Horsham - especially for Valentine's Day?

The big day is upon us, so where are you planning to take your Valentine for dinner? Or, perhaps the question should be, where would you like to be taken on Feb. 14? Is it Cafe Lombardi that whets your appetite, or do you prefer Cafe La Fontana, or Buona Via Ristorante Italiano. Maybe na'Brasa's Brazilian flare is more to your liking. Of course, there's also Los Sarapes at Horsham, Fountain Side Seafood Grill, or Kinnaree Thai-French Cuisine. Vote for your favorite dining establishments in the survey below and remember to click on the links above and rate the business on its Patch Place listing. You can even write a review. For those who play elsewhere, check out some of the places on Warminster's Patch poll here or Lower Moreland Patch …

Sweet Success

Stutz Candies is your Valentine's Day headquarters

John Glaser has what some might call an ironic life. The owner of Stutz Candies in Hatboro, Glaser has poured more than 60 years of his life into making sweets to fill the foil hearts of candy boxes - and the hearts of lovers. Yet, at age 70, Glaser, of Willow Grove, is still a bachelor in every sense of the word. “I used to work 100 hours a week,” Glaser says from his Hatboro store, amid row after row of fancy white and chocolate covered pretzels and shiny pink and red hearts brimming with sweet treats. “I never married. I’m married to the business.” Despite never marrying, Glaser feels the love every Valentine’s Day as customers flock to his two local stores - in Hatboro and Warrington - to buy up the chocolate treasures made in his …
