The Union Library of Hatboro is inviting Hatboro-Horsham School District students to come up with a catchy slogan.
When you think of the Union Library of Hatboro, what comes to mind? Hatboro-Horsham School District students have a chance to put pen to paper to craft a motto fitting of the second-oldest library in Pennsylvania as part of a slogan contest in effect through Dec. 12. “It seemed like a good way to get the community involved,” Librarian Harriet Ehrsam told Patch, adding that the top slogan would become part of the library’s letterhead and would appear on bookmarks. The contest is open to Hatboro-Horsham School District students in third- through 12th grades. The top winner will receive $50 and two runner ups will win age-appropriate gift certificates, Ehrsam said. The slogan will be the first-ever for the library, according to Ehrsam. “We’re…

Video surveillance allegedly caught a 22-year-old woman in the act at the Union Library of Hatboro.
A 22-year-old woman with no fixed address is in county jail for allegedly stealing a donation jar with approximately $30 inside. The woman was arrested on Tuesday at 9:19 p.m. and charged with theft and receiving stolen property as a result of a Hatboro Police investigation that began when a donation jar containing about $30 was stolen from the Union Library of Hatboro on Sept. 15. The theft was captured on video surveillance and investigation identified the woman as the suspect. She was arraigned before District Justice Harry Nesbitt of Horsham and was incarcerated at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Are you wondering when the kids can head to the library to study, take out books or, for the younger crowds, enjoy story time? The Horsham Township Library is open Mondays from 12:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed on Sundays and holidays, including Labor Day. Hatboro business owner Kathy Salemno of KP Kitchen Crafts demonstrates cake decorating in honor of Julia Child's 100th birthday.
Culinary and pastry chef Kathy Salemno learned first-hand the challenges women once faced in rolling their sleeves up to cook in kitchens alongside men. Like Julia Child, Salemno’s commencement speaker at the Culinary Institute of America, Salemno said she had to break the glass ceiling in rising to cooking and baking success. But, after being given a chance years ago, Salemno, the owner of KP Kitchen Crafts in Hatboro, said she’s been teaching since 1974, most recently at the Hatboro Area YMCA. See the favorite indoor kid-friendly pick among Hatboro-Horsham Patch readers.
The votes are in and Hatboro-Horsham Patch users overwhelmingly voted for the Union Library of Hatboro as the best place to take kids on a rainy day. The 18th century library, which last year had a historical marker dedicated in its honor, claimed 69 percent of the votes. The Horsham Township Library and the "other" category each garnered 9 percent of the votes cast. Be sure to check back next week when we ask Patch users to pick their favorite place to get a cupcake.
