Hatboro Waives Fees for Storm-Related Damages

The Hatboro Borough Council approved a resolution to waive fees related to property repairs in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Hatboro property owners who incurred damage related to Hurricane Sandy's wrath can at least cross one expense from their list. On Monday night, the Hatboro Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution to waive permitting fees for storm-related damage dealt from last month's super storm, which downed trees and power lines and knocked out power to thousands throughout the region.  Typically, property owners would need to apply for - and pay fees - for borough permits allowing for the removal of trees, fences and other structures, Council President John Zygmont said.  "We’re waiving the fees to let the homeowners get back to doing everything quick," Zygmont said.  Under the resolution, storm-related repairs would still need a permit …

Avoid a Home Repair Scam

Here are some tips to avoid getting ripped off by someone posing as a contractor.

Spotting these con artists is sometimes difficult, but there are things you can look for and ways to check them out.  NARI-BIE says, "Frequently, these fly-by-night operators …

Storm Causes Problems in Hatboro

Last night's storms took down trees and left Hatboro residents in the dark.

Severe storms ripped through the area Thursday night bringing lightning, strong winds and heavy rain. The quick moving storm also brought down trees and power lines in Hatboro. Police reported that the strong storms knocked out power to about one-third of Hatboro’s homes. Officials said the power and a majority of the storm damage was cleared by midnight. A tree that fell on live wires on the property on St. John’s Lutheran Church caused residents to see the wire arcing and requiring police and members of the fire company to secure the scene. By early Friday morning the line was still down and live. Police who roped off the area said the line was a low priority for backlogged PECO because it was not causing any outages. Downed wires on …
