A $115,000 grant that Hatboro received will aid in the purchase of a new and larger vehicle for recycling pickup.
Tired of breaking down and tying your boxes for recycling? By year’s end, Hatboro officials said residents would no longer need to do that. Hatboro Borough Manager Fred Zollers said the borough found out recently that its $115,000 recycling grant was approved. The funding, which requires a 10 percent municipal match, would be used to buy a new and much larger vehicle for recycling pickup. “This will be like a standard trash truck,” Zollers said of the rear loader trash truck. For residents, that means no more breaking down boxes, according to Zollers. “We’ll be able to take them,” he said. Currently, Hatboro recycles plastic, cardboard and paper. Zollers said “everything but Styrofoam and PVC pipe” is collected. Click here for specifics …

Hatboro residents who normally have trash and recycling pickup on Tuesday have had collections moved to Wednesday.
With Hurricane Sandy winds whipping, the last thing that Hatboro's Public Works Department needs is to track down garbage blown from can to sidewalk and throughout the borough. That's why Hatboro opted to move its Tuesday trash and recycling collection from Tuesday to Wednesday, according to Public Works Director and Borough Manager Fred Zollers. Public Works staff will be working on Tuesday and the borough will be open, Zollers said. Hatboro's Emergency Operations Center will be in place as long as the storm warrants, officials said. Residents who have a Tuesday trash/recycling collection are asked to place items curbside on Wednesday, Oct. 31 for collection.

Tuesday, November 8, 2011
Metal and plastic signs are dotted along streets and roads throughout the county to remind passersby that today is Election Day. In years past, tens of thousands of those signs were destined for the trash. This year, however, the Montgomery County Recycling office has partnered with ReCommunity Recycling, Sullivan’s Scrap Metals and the Montgomery County Democratic and Republican Committees to collect and recycle all types of campaign signs along with their posts and stakes. “This collection program does not take the responsibility for cleaning up campaign signs away from candidates. Instead, we want to connect candidates and home owners with drop off points so that signs can be recycled instead of thrown in the trash,” said Chris …
