After being closed for more than two years, the two-lane bridge connecting Horsham and Montgomery townships, will reopen today.
Traveling from Horsham Township to Montgomery Township will get easier starting today with the long-awaited reopening of the Limekiln Pike bridge. PennDOT will hold an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. today for the recently restored stone arch bridge over Little Neshaminy Creek in Horsham and Montgomery townships. The $987,617 project began in May. As of Thursday afternoon, crews were still working on the structure and closures were still in place. The circa 1838 bridge had been restricted to one southbound lane since May 2010. During the recent construction, both lanes were closed and detours were put in place. Pat Kohler, owner of Kohler Farms, which is located about a half mile south of the bridge in Horsham, said …

Beneficial Bank intends to open a new location by year's end.
The Horsham Township Council on Wednesday night gave the green light to a development plan that, according to officials, would lend itself to a better entryway into town. Roughly $800,000 in traffic and aesthetic improvements are planned in conjunction with the construction of an 1,800-square-foot Beneficial Bank at the intersection of Welsh Road and Limekiln Pike in Horsham, according to Horsham Township Manager Bill Walker. In addition to intersection improvements, including a driveway for the adjacent CVS, traffic signal upgrades to LED lights, a traffic control box for emergency responders and generator capability in the event of power outages, Beneficial Bank agreed to include a “Welcome to Horsham” sign on the property. Landscaping …

Beneficial Bank hopes to convert a former Texaco gas station to a new lending facility.
“Major” traffic and aesthetic improvements are planned in conjunction with the construction of an 1,800-square-foot Beneficial Bank at the intersection of Welsh Road and Limekiln Pike in Horsham. “The plan really cleans up this lot,” Township Manager Bill Walker said. “It’s an entranceway into Horsham Township.” As such, drivers entering the township via neighboring Upper Dublin, will know exactly where they are as Beneficial Bank agreed to include a “Welcome to Horsham” sign on the property. Landscaping with additional tree plantings is envisioned, along with better stormwater management controls. The Horsham Township Council reviewed the plans and considered granting preliminary and final land development approval during last week’s …

The school board and Horsham Township Council this week approved extensions to the 20-year-old agreement for the former Simmons Elementary School on Limekiln Pike.
Since the fall of 1992, Hatboro-Horsham School District has had an option agreement with Horsham Township for the "right of first refusal" for the former Simmons Elementary School. The initial five-year agreement for the 10.5-acre parcel now known as Limekiln Simmons School, has been extended several times, including the most recent one-year extension approved Monday by the Hatboro-Horsham School Board and the Horsham Township Council on Wednesday night. The latest extension continues the option agreement through Aug. 17, 2013. If executed, the contract would allow the township to purchase the Horsham Township property, which is located at 1125 Limekiln Pike, for $1. The district had been using the building for its special education …

Five homes have tested positive for high levels of PCE, making drinking water unsafe.
Approximately one-quarter of Horsham residences with well water – which could be unsafe to drink - have reportedly been unresponsive to requests from the state Department of Environmental Protection to test wells free of charge. In all, an estimated two dozen properties in the area of Limekiln Pike and Grindleton Lane use well water, according to DEP Environmental Trainee Carly Nagle. Of those, 15 of the properties have had their wells tested; and at least six of the property owners have not responded to Nagle’s well survey questionnaire, or her requests to conduct testing. Testing began in June as part of DEP’s regular monitoring following a previous contamination stemming from nearby Glemser Brothers, which had at one time operated a gas…

PennDOT plans to repave a section running through Horsham, Upper Dublin and Abington
Motorists who travel Limekiln Pike may have a smoother ride once PennDOT repaves a six-mile stretch of the roadway. A section running from North Hills Avenue to Tennis Avenue going through Abington, Upper Dublin and Horsham will be put out to bid next month as part of a 17-road resurfacing project, PennDOT spokesman Eugene Blaum said. Limekiln Pike is the only roadwork planned for Horsham, he said. Blaum said the contract, once awarded, is scheduled to start in July. He said Limekiln Pike would be resurfaced sometime this summer, or early fall. All roads would be completed by late October, he said. “Several state roads in Montgomery County will be resurfaced under this contract including the stretch of Limekiln Pike,” Blaum said. “I’ll …
