'Those Wildwood Days' Will Still Be Free

Wildwood's beaches will stay cost-free this summer.

The chill of a code blue in mid-February makes many yearn for the hot days of summer. As residents from Montgomery County start to make Jersey Shore plans, they'll be happy to know more cash won't have to come out of their pockets to hit the beach. According to a report by The Philly Post, Wildwood city officials decided this week that they would not approve an admission fee program on its beaches this summer. CBS Philly reports said Mayor Ernie Troiano was in favor of the fees. He felt that with the city's shortfalls in budget could be covered by the new beach fees. "You have people who will sit there and chop your head off because their taxes are too high,” he said to CBS, "and then you try to create a revenue source and then they chop …

Horsham Man Vanishes at Jersey Shore

The 52-year-old man has been missing since Friday.

The Coast Guard has ended a search for a 54-year-old Horsham man who went missing off the coast of South Jersey Friday, according to ABC27. Brad Smith and another man were walking with their daughters in knee-deep water in North Wildwood late Friday afternoon when they were said to have fallen into a drop in the sand. ABC reports that the four were pulled out to sea by the undertow, though the other man and his daughter were able to make their way back to shore. A man on a personal watercraft rescued Smith's 7-year-old daughter, but Smith has not been located. According to the Press of Atlantic City, helicopter and boat searches were carried out Friday night and Saturday morning. Officials decided around 3 p.m. Saturday to suspend the …

Surviving the Shore

Lucy remembers family vacations at the shore.

It’s officially summer, and we’ve had a heat wave to prove it. Thoughts of vacation and going to the shore are on many peoples’ minds. Me? I’m not known for enjoying outdoor activities. In fact, I’ve always said that my favorite outdoor activity is coming back inside. Age has only deepened that sentiment. That being said, I just love the ocean. I’ll stand there, admiring it for several, long seconds, then go back to shopping on the boardwalk. As I’m sure you’ve gleaned, I don’t venture out on the beach all that often. The exception to that are random early morning walks on the shore collecting sea shells. And if I want to splash around in water, there’s always the condo’s pool. I visit that once every five years or so. I’ve even been known…

Singing A Shore Thing

Coastal Vibes, an eight-piece a cappella group comprised of four Hatboro-Horsham High School alums, plans to take on the Jersey shore this summer.

Boardwalk fries. Beaches. Amusement rides.  If four Hatboro-Horsham High School alums have their way, a new, more melodic “attraction” could be a summertime lure at the Jersey shore. Led by 2010 grad Joey Harrell, the eight-piece all-male a cappella singing sensation, dubbed Coastal Vibes, is sure to be a shore thing. Whether on the Ocean City boardwalk, or at the Margate Dairy Bar, the contemporary cover band can be heard harmonizing everything from Doo Wop favorites to top 40 hits and everything in between. “This has always been what I wanted to do,” said Harrell from a Horsham home where seven of the eight members converged recently following an end-of-year event at Keith Valley Middle School. “Since last summer I’ve been working on …
