Horsham Police Blotter

Horsham man arrested on domestic abuse charges.

The following information was provided by the Horsham Township Police Department.  At 10:41 p.m. on Feb. 17, officers responded to the 1100 block of Brynhill Court in Horsham for a domestic dispute in progress. An investigation revealed that an argument occurred between Leonard Cherkas, 61, and his girlfriend that police said escalated into a physical confrontation. As a result of the alleged incident, Cherkas was arrested on charges of simple assault and harassment.

Police seek puppy thief.

Horsham Police are seeking suspects believed to have stolen a black Labrador retriever puppy from Horsham Veterinary Hospital on Sunday.  The 4:52 p.m. theft occurred during a rescue adoption event. Possible suspects were described as a white male, tall and slender with short dark hair in his early 20s, and a white female with long dark hair in her late teens. Possible vehicle description is a full-size Dodge pick-up truck, rust or bronze in color. The vehicle was seen leaving the hospital west on Horsham Road. Then, at 12:33 a.m., this vehicle was reported to be driving in a reckless manner in the area of Easton Road and Moreland Avenue. Horsham Police Keep Watch Over Air Base

Although the Willow Grove air base is a virtual ghost town as compared to its previous peak operations, a force will remain in place long after the military is completely gone.  Horsham Police. The police took over regular patrols on the Navy side of the sprawling 1,100-acre base on July 1, according to Horsham Township Manager Bill Walker. With most of the military gone, Horsham Fire Company and ambulance are now responsible for emergency calls on the base as well, Walker said. Security remains in place at the main gate, which is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Walker said. To date, the only wrinkle has been a minor theft of a pig smoker, Horsham Police Capt. Joseph M.
