PA Towns Ring in 2013 with Pickles, Peeps, Goats and Crayons

New York City may have a Waterford Crystal ball, but Pennsylvania towns have their own unique ways to celebrate the New Year.

  Pickles? Peeps? Bologna? Pennsylvania has a tradition of dropping and raising some unique items on New Year's Eve.  If you want to do something different this year and are willing to take a road trip, take a look a some of the unique objects many central and northern Pennsylvania towns are lifting or lowering.  Have a sweet tooth? Hershey raises a kiss, Hummelstown drops a lollipop, and Elizabethtown drops M&Ms. Craving salty snacks? RECALL: Foam Pumpkin Turkey Craft Kit

Craft kits sold at Jo-Ann Craft stores are being recalled.

Jo-Anne Fabric and Craft stores are recalling the foam Pumpkin Turkey Craft kit manufactured by Ningbo Golden Time Gifts and Crafts for magnet ingestion hazard. According to the recall from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, "the magnets holding the pumpkin shell pieces together can become loose, posing a hazard to young children. If swallowed, these magnets can link together inside a child's intestines and clamp onto body tissues, causing intestinal obstructions, perforations, sepsis and death. Internal injury from magnets can pose serious lifelong health effects." No injuries have been reported. The products were sold nationwide at Jo-Ann Craft Stores between August 2012 and October 2012. I totally agree except I think they're saying these magnets aren't supposed to come loose but they are, unexpectedly. I guess I can see them issuing a warning...maybe a recall is overdoing it.   more ›
