The Hatboro-Horsham High School baseball team lost its last game to Central Bucks West on Monday.
The Hatboro-Horsham High School baseball team (9-11 overall, 6-8 SOL Continental) lost its final game of the season 5-3 to Central Bucks West. The Hatters got on the board first as they scored 3 runs in the bottom of the second inning on back-to-back homeruns by senior Ryan Kelly and sophomore Kevin Barron. Senior starting pitcher Zach Prendergast sailed through the first five innings without allowing a run. However, with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, the Bucks had four consecutive hits to take a 4-3 lead. They added another run in the top of the seventh inning against reliever Tyler Markovic to take a 5-3 lead. The Hatboro-Horsham High School boys lacrosse team finished out its regular season with a perfect 12-0 record in the league.
The Hatboro-Horsham High School boys lacrosse team beat Central Bucks West by a score of 7-4 to end their regular season with an overall record of 15-3, and a perfect 12-0 in the league. It is the first time since 2004 that the Hatters finished undefeated in league play. Jimmy Murphy and Ryan Higgins led the Hatters offensively. Marc Poust was outstanding in goal recording 22 saves on 26 shots. Another strong defensive effort by Jake Cresta, Keith Cameron, TJ Keleher, Matt McPoyle, Jack Lavery, and Jeff O'Brien. The Hatboro-Horsham High School girls lacrosse team went undefeated Wednesday (12-0) in the Suburban 1 Continental Conference with a 10-4 final conference win over North Penn. The Hatboro-Horsham boys lacrosse team won its fifth straight game, and 13 out of its last 14, as they beat Holy Ghost Prep 8-7 in a must-win non-league match-up Tuesday. Zach Erwine, Jimmy Murphy, Jimmy Durkin and Ryan Higgins led the Hatters offensively. Ben Cellini and Steve Palo contributed one goal each. Jimmy Murphy also led the team in ground balls with seven. Steve Palo dominated on face-offs, giving the Hatters plenty of opportunities to maintain its lead and hold on for the victory. Marc Poust was solid in goal recording 12 saves on 19 shots. The Hatboro-Horsham High School baseball team lost to North Penn on Tuesday.
The Hatters (8-9 overall, 5-7 SOL Continental) fell 7-1 to North Penn (8-4 SOL Continental) on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights scored six runs in the first two innings and cruised to the victory behind Bryce Mengel's complete game effort. Mengel struck out six and allowed just three hits and a walk. After the first two batters were retired in the first inning, Eddie Posavec walked and Chris Kersey was hit by a pitch. Jared Melone's double scored them both to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. In the second, the Knights scored four runs on the strength of a couple walks, two bunt singles, an error and a Brady West double. Coming on the heels of last month's U.S. News and World Report's snubHatboro-Horsham High School again failed to rank among the best high schools, according to the Newsweek and The Daily Beast rankings of the nation's 2,000 best high schools. The rankings, which were released Monday, were based on self-reported school district data for the 2011-2012 school year, according to the report. In all, more than 5,000 high schools were asked to participate in the survey and "nearly 2,500 responded." Like the U.S. News rankings, AP exams and college readiness/acceptance make up a significant component–25 percent for each–of the ranking standards. Like 11th-grader Haley Manchon, all of these creative geniuses–and many other celebrities–have been recognized by the 90-year-old Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for artistic endeavors ranging from writing, photography and various forms of art. For her part, Haley, who the Hatboro-Horsham School Board recognized Monday night, will be honored at Carnegie Hall on May 31 with her American Vision Medal. Hatboro-Horsham High School's boys lacrosse team beat Downingtown West by a score of 10-7 to earn a much-needed non-conference win Monday. A teacher from Hallowell Elementary School and Hatboro-Horsham High School are among 12 finalists in Pennsylvania for the 2014 Teacher of the Year.
Individually, Lori Gallagher and Nicole Miletto work to lead, inspire and challenge their students. Gallagher, a Hatboro-Horsham High School art teacher of 24 years and Miletto, a Hallowell Elementary School third-grade teacher of six years, are leading the district–and the state of Pennsylvania–by example. Both Gallagher and Miletto are among the 12 finalists for the state's 2014 Teacher of the Year award. Gov. Tom Corbett and Secretary of Education Ron Tomalis announced the 2014 Teacher of the Year finalists earlier this week.
