Gas Prices Start a Seasonal Climb

Find the cheapest gas in Hatboro and Horsham.

The national average for self-serve gas has increased for ten straight days to the highest price in more than a month, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. The national average this for a gallon is $3.588, up 4.9 cents from last week, but still about 14 cents lower than a year ago. But according to the report, the year over year difference will likely continue to fade due to higher crude oil prices and refinery maintenance that decreases supply. In Bucks and Montgomery counties, gas prices went up 5 cents since last week, making the average price $3.530, that’s .3 cents less than a month ago and 25.9 lower than last year’s prices. Clock Tower Project Gets Funding Boost

The state has approved a matching $25,000 grant earmarked for the repair of Hatboro's 200-year-old clock tower.

Hatboro will be $25,000 closer to restarting the hands of time, an official told Patch.  The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission this week approved a $25,000 matching grant for Hatboro's ongoing clock tower restoration project, Bill Dixon, a legislative aide for State Rep. Tom Murt told Patch. Dixon said PHMC green-lighted its share of funding for the project on Wednesday and is in the process of sending a contract to Hatboro with pertinent details.  In all, the total restoration and repair of the borough's circa 1812 clock tower is expected to cost $51,000, Dixon said.  Hatboro Councilwoman Patty Fleming, who sits on a clock tower committee along with Dixon and Hatboro community members, said in March that the group was "better …

Library Expands Kids Room Offerings

A $2,500 Library Services and Technology Act grant helped The Union Library of Hatboro purchase items for its pre-school room.

Stay and play. That's the hope of The Union Library of Hatboro as far as visitors to its kids room. A recent addition of a comfy rocking chair and matching ottoman beckons families to sit and read. A new train set and magnetic and 3-D puzzles offer fun for pre-schoolers and plastic storage bins help to organize the library's assortment of legos and other small toys. Librarian Harriet Ehrsam said all were possible through a $2,500 Library Services and Technology Act grant and accompanying $1,000 worth of merchandise that the library received recently. The goal, she said, is to encourage families to visit the library longer by expanding offerings well beyond the realm of books. "I was thrilled. This was a good year for grants," Ehrsam said …
