Crooked Billet Student Shares Anti-Drug Message

Crooked Billet Elementary School fifth-grader Lily Bigley was one of 13 student artists selected statewide as part of an anti-drug contest.

The colors are vivid. The message simple: "Don't Get Busted Because of Drugs!" Crooked Billet Elementary School fifth-grader Lily Bigley, 10, of Hatboro, spent about a week last year designing what would end up being a winning entry in a statewide art contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. For her win, Lily's piece was displayed as the February masterpiece in a calendar featuring all of the art contest winners. “I am so proud of her,“ gushed Lily's mother, Donna, who said her daughter has been into crafts and arts practically her whole life. And those creative juices must run in Lily's family. Mrs. Bigley said Lily's twin sister Mia's contest entry also made a good showing in the contest. No small feat when you …

Police Lockdown Crooked Billet

The eight-minute lockdown of the Hatboro elementary school was carried out at the Montgomery County dispatch's request.

Crooked Billet Elementary School was locked down for eight minutes Thursday afternoon, a school administrator told Patch. Hatboro-Horsham School District Superintendent Curtis Griffin told Patch that the lockdown - from 1:25 p.m. to 1:33 p.m. - was done at the behest of Montgomery County dispatch.  At no time were students or staff put in danger, Griffin said. Hatboro Police Chief James Gardner said the police were searching for Jason Potts, 24, of Hatboro, who had failed to appear in court on a burglary charge. Potts, who Gardner said had been seen near the footbridge in the Livingstone Apartment complex, 240 E. County Line Road, shortly after 1 p.m., had fled when approached by a police officer.  "When ordered to stop he ran into the …

My children most definately know the meaning of the battle, and, that just because battles are lost does not mean we should not recognize and honor those who lost their lives fighting for freedom. Remembering an event that happenend in one's own town also instills a connection to history and to the town itself. It is an event that provides the opportunity for non-book/non-test learning that …   more ›

UPDATE: Hatboro Police Release Sketch of Armed Robber

An armed robbery on Monday caused the Crooked Billet Elementary School to be locked down.

An apartment robbery on County Line Road spurred Hatboro Police to alert administrators at Crooked Billet Elementary School to prevent anyone from exiting Monday morning, police said. Hatboro Police Chief James Gardner said the robbery occurred in the 200 block of East County Line Road at 10:09 a.m. A 30-year-old resident of the Livingstone apartment complex reported that as she was entering the common entrance to her apartment building she observed a black male sitting on the stairway in the building. Beaulahbb, thank you for confirming what Nixle is not saying on their website. Depending on the price, I still believe Nixle is a very, very effective tool for crime prevention, catching the "bad guys" and keeping residents informed. Did your contact in UM tell you how much they pay for the service? No, I don't work for the Borough.   more ›

Crooked Billet Students Hold 'Acceptance Day'

The fourth annual event focused on medical diagnoses and disabilities.

Crooked Billet Elementary School students received valuable lessons in respect and consideration Friday during the school’s fourth annual Acceptance Day.  Each year, Team Crooked Billet — a group of educators who coordinate the event — select a topic to teach students, so they are better informed about their peers and the world around them, and can become more accepting individuals. Educators on Friday talked about medical diagnoses and disabilities, since the subjects are becoming widely discussed issues.   Students learned about hearing impairment and autism, and how those disabilities affect those who live with them on a daily basis. Students also heard from guest speaker and Hatboro-Horsham High School senior Sean Canepa, who shared …
