Arlen Specter (D-PA) was remembered by loved ones Tuesday as a man of independence, virtue and influence, with well over 1,000 people, including Vice President Joe Biden, filling a suburban Philadelphia synagogue for his funeral. Har Zion Temple in Lower Merion Township's Penn Valley held the 90-minute ceremony before Specter, who died Sunday at 82 in his Philadelphia home, was to be buried in Huntington Valley. Former U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter died Sunday, according to CNN, at age 82 in his Philadelphia home. Specter represented Pennsylvania in the Senate for 30 years. Specter started as a Democrat but switched to the Republican party before being elected to the U.S. Senate. The senator made headlines in 2009 when he switched to the Democratic Party. Specter announced his diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease in 2005. He underwent multiple treatments of chemotherapy and finally succumbed to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma Sunday. Sen. Robert Glenn Warfield III of North Port, Fla., formerly of Horsham, died Friday, following a motorcycle crash. He was 30. Warfield was born in Abington and was the son of Robert Glenn Warfield, Jr. and Teresa (Appel) Warfield. He was raised in Horsham and graduated from Hatboro-Horsham High School in 2001 before relocating to Florida in 2007. He was employed as a regional Service Technician for Circle K Stores. Warfield loved muscle cars, motorcycling, off road vehicles, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed living in Florida's Gulf Coast, and lived the coastal life to its fullest extent. Norman T. Williams of Hatboro died on Tuesday. He was 86. He was the husband of Lois L. Williams with whom he had shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Tamaqua, he was the son of the late Harold C. and Jennie M. Williams. Williams was a World War II veteran and took part in the Invasion of Normandy. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy and began his 40-year career at Reading Railroad/Conrail. After retiring, Williams enjoyed traveling with his wife and was happy to be called "snow birds" as they spent winter seasons in central Florida. He was a member of Chandler Lodge No. 227 for more than 60 years as well as a member of the Lulu Shrine and Valley of Lehigh Consistory. He also enjoyed shuffle board and card games and was known …

James Mellor Platt of Hatboro, died on Sept. 18 at Southampton Estates. He was 90. He was the husband of Dorothy Young Platt, with whom he had shared 68 years of marriage. He was born in Philadelphia, a son of the late Thomas Mellor and Kathryn Haigh Platt. A 1941 graduate of Frankford High School, Platt attended one year at Mount Alto Campus of Penn State University until serving as a Signalman 2nd Class in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II. After the war, he attended Temple University. Until his retirement, he was an Export Traffic Manager at Pennwalt Chemical Corporation in Warminster, where he had worked for 40 years. Mary Ann T. (Dochnal) Mumford, of Horsham, died Friday at the age of 72. She was the wife of Clyde R. Mumford, with whom she shared 54 years.
