Joe Sherman, 97, of Hatboro

An interment service will be held next month for Joe Sherman, formerly of Hatboro.

Joe Sherman, the son of eastern European immigrants and a Hatboro resident of the last 50 years, died on March 27. He was 97. The beloved husband of Virginia Sherman, Sherman is survived by his children Michael, Cynthia, Peter and Thomas and 11 grandchildren.  After a stint in the CCC's in the 1930s, he traveled cross country on his motorcycle to enroll at the College of Engineering at the University of Iowa where he became the first of his family to achieve a college degree. He met and married Virginia Moffit in 1943, celebrating 70 years of marriage just last November. Funeral arrangements have been set for George E. Hentschel Jr. of Hatboro.

George E. Hentschel, Jr. of Spring House Estates, formerly of Hatboro, died on Feb. 6. He was 92. He was the beloved husband of his first wife, the late Lucille (Peg) Hentschel, and his second wife, the late Wanda C. Hentschel. Hentschel was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran who served in WWII with the 8th Air Force 398 Division of the 601st Squadron. He was a member of the American Legion-William Boulton Dixon, PA Post 10, W.K, Bray Lodge No. 410 F. &A.M. and The Lehigh Consistory. Anna M. "Nancy" Goodwin of Hatboro will be laid to rest on Friday.

Anna M. “Nancy” Goodwin of Hatboro died on Jan. 14. She was 95. The beloved wife of the late Robert E. Goodwin with whom she had shared 49 years of marriage, Goodwin was born in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Edward P. and Cecilia (nee Nolen) Conlan. She was a member of the Review Club of Montgomery County. Goodwin enjoyed spending summers in Cape May and Ocean City, was an avid reader, and player of Canasta and Scrabble. Long-Time Hatboro Business Owner Dies

Al Wipplinger, the owner of Village Hardware and Hobbies in Hatboro died on Sunday at age 72.

Hatboro business owner Alvin C. Wipplinger Jr., a self-described “big kid at heart” introduced the lure of trains and accompanying railroad tracks to a new generation of enthusiasts. Wipplinger, known to many as Al, not only created the Main Street Hatboro Model Train Show – which wrapped its seventh annual event last month – he also bought and sold trains through his borough business, Village Hardware and Hobbies. Wipplinger, of Horsham died on Sunday. He was 72. Norman Schimpf, 86, of Hatboro

Funeral arrangements have been set for Sunday for long-time Hatboro resident Norman H. Schimpf.

Norman H. Schimpf, a resident of Hatboro for 56 years, died Nov. 7 in Riddle Memorial Hospital. He was 86. Schimpf was preceded in death by his devoted wife Violet L. (nee Krouse) with whom he had shared 53 years of marriage. He was born in Philadelphia a son of the late Charles M. and Gertrude Woelfel Schimpf. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, he began his career with Bell Telephone as an installer, a position he held for over 35 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers and the Bell Telephone Barber Shop Quartet. Jean Nicholson, 88, of Warminster

The wife of the late Charles G. Nicholson, a former State Rep., Mrs. Nicholson was involved in the Hatboro, Abington and Willow Grove communities.

Jean (Billman) Nicholson, of Warminster, died Oct. 14. She was 88. Nicholson was the last survivor of seven children. She grew up in the lower East Falls section of Philadelphia. She graduated from Germantown High School and attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she met her future husband, the late Charles G. Nicholson, who in the 1960s served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, covering Hatboro in his district.  Nicholson was involved in the Hatboro and Willow Grove communities and served as president in the Women’s Auxiliary for Abington Memorial Hospital and sang for many years in the Abington Choral Club, where she also served as president.
