Hike for Horsham History

Sunday morning race and hike benefits Horsham Preservation and Historical Association in its efforts to renovate the Penrose-Strawbridge house.

The Horsham Preservation and Historical Association held its first 5K race and one-mile hike Sunday morning, where participants experienced Horsham’s history while helping raise funds to keep it alive.

Racers had the chance to see eight historic Horsham buildings and hikers could tour Horsham’s and the adjacent Penrose-Strawbridge property. The day’s proceeds will benefit the association, which has undertaken the herculean effort of

According to Executive Director Peter Choate, the association wanted to hold a race with a historical slant. It also gave locals the opportunity to see the Kenderdine Mill property, which had been closed to the public for years.

“There’s over 100 buildings in Horsham that are over 100 years old,” he added.

Eric Frank was the first runner to finish, with a time of 19 minutes and 44 seconds.

“I thought the course was nice. I got to see a couple of cool buildings,” he said.

Frank was one of 63 participants, with runners making a loop down Keith Valley Road, and around and .

Marjorie Olsho, the first woman to cross the finish line, had a time of 20 minutes and 57 seconds.

“It’s a gorgeous morning and it was beautiful going through the grounds,” she said. “There was nice support from people.”
