These useful but less patriotically-associated birds have been here all along, and do their part cleaning up after all the deer the wander into traffic.  THe black vulture is also known as the turkey buzzard, but I think as a carrion bird they'd not tangle with a big, fat farm turkey.  A whole crew of them were gathered in the Horsham Friends' Meetinghouse lawn last Thanksgiving.  Red-tail ("chicken hawks") and sharp-shinned hawks are common along the trees between the neighborhoods, and yes, I lost a young chicken to one last fall.
