Horsham Opens LL Season Under Lights

When Tim John pressed the button at the Horsham Little League’s opening ceremonies Friday evening, his eyes lit up as bright as the that began to illuminate the baseball field.

His reaction to seeing the lights shining down on the small players: “Fantastic!”

John, who has served as a coach, umpire and board member for Horsham Little League, spearheaded the group's fundraising efforts that helped the lights become a reality for many years - he believes close to 40.

“[The lights] are a great addition and will help the ball playing,” John said after he threw the season’s opening pitch.

“They’ve been talking about putting lights in for years and it’s terrific,” said Little League President Kevin Wall.

The light sets - on eight 60-foot-tall poles - will now let the league play night games, which is a first for the youth baseball and softball group. Fields four and eight are the only fields presently lit by the lights.

Aside from the lights, locals came out in droves to celebrate the over 900 pint-sized players who started their season Friday evening.

Music, a dancing cow and a parade of players filled for the festivities and the first games of youth baseball season.

Opening weekend games will continue Saturday.
