Hatter Pitcher Signs Intent for Kutztown U.

The senior right-handed pitcher intends to major in secondary education at Kutztown University.

Hatboro-Horsham High School senior right-handed pitcher, David Brown, on Wednesday signed his letter of intent to play baseball and attend Kutztown University.

Brown was an Honorable Mention All-League pitcher in 2013 for the Hatters. In 2013, he was 1-1 with 20 strikeouts in 15.1 innings pitched. During that time, he had a 0.91 Earned Run Average and 0.85 walks and hits per inning pitched, according to Hatters baseball coach Pete Moore.

The Kutztown-bound Brown intends to major in secondary education and aspires to be a math teacher and coach when he graduates from college.

Brown said he chose Kutztown after visiting the school because he loved everything about it.

"I’m really excited for this high school season because even though we only have a few players coming back, I think we have a lot of juniors that nobody knows about yet and we can really surprise some people in the SOL," Brown said in a release supplied by the district.

Moore described Brown as "honest, respectful, hard working…really everything that you want your son to be."

As a baseball player, Moore said Brown "has a second side to him."

"He is a mean son-of-a-gun on the mound," Moore said in a prepared statement. "He’s a fierce competitor and that’s what you want to see out of your pitchers. He’s a guy who wants the baseball in his hand."

Last year, according to his coach, Brown pitched behind a couple of good pitchers–Zach Prendergast (Seton Hall )and Ryan Kelly (St. Joe’s)–and assumed any role he was asked to do.

"This year, we are looking for him to take on a bigger role and so are his teammates who have selected him as a captain," Moore said. "I look forward to seeing what he can do as the guy at the top of our rotation. I know he’ll rise to that challenge."
