PHILADELPHIA, PA — The American Lung Association of Philadelphia will be leading the Fight for Air when it hosts the 10th annual Fight for Air Walk on May 5, 2012. The walk begins at Headhouse Square on 2nd Street, between Lombard and Pine Streets. Registration and family fun festivities for the walkers begins at 8 a.m., and the walk begins promptly at 10 a.m.

This walk brings families, friends, and the community together to raise awareness of the 35 million Americans suffering from lung disease, including asthma, lung cancer, and COPD. When you join the American Lung Association in the fight for healthy lungs and healthy air, you help save lives today and keep America healthy tomorrow. By walking for the people you love, you help in the fight against the dangers of secondhand smoke and unhealthy air.

Participation is free and all participants who individually raise at least $100 by April 15 will receive a complimentary t-shirt. This year’s Fight for Air Walk goal is to raise over $112,000 with a participant goal of over 1,000.

American Lung Association “Lung Champions” will speak at the event on behalf of the mission of the American Lung Association to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. The event draws media coverage from various outlets, such as 97.5 BEN FM, this year’s official radio sponsor. Marilyn Russell, radio personality from the 97.5 BEN FM morning show, will be the emcee of this year’s walk.

Participants are invited to register from all over the Philadelphia area and surrounding counties, including southern New Jersey. Many of the teams are united by the suffering of family and friends affected by lung disease, lung cancer, or asthma. The presenting sponsor for this year’s event is Kindred Hospitals; other key sponsors include TEVA Respiratory, Church & Dwight, ChoosePAWind, and Health Partners.
