Baseball: Hatters Fall to Souderton

Souderton defeated the visiting Hatboro-Horsham baseball team Thursday.

The visiting Hatters (6-6 overall, 5-4 SOL Continental) lost 4-3 at Souderton (4-4 SOL Continental). The Hatters scored two runs in the first inning, but Souderton tied it on a two-run homerun by Brad Stolzfus in the second inning.

The Hatters took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth when Kevin Barron's triple scored Grant Opalisky (3-4). Souderton scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game.

Souderton's DH Dylan Morrissette led off the bottom of the sixth with a hit by pitch. Pinch runner Trey Ziegler then was sacrificed to second and scored on Brett Hale's two-out RBI single.

The Hatters threatened in the top of the seventh inning as they had second and third with nobody out, but Souderton's starter, Dan O'Hara (14 strikeouts) finished what he started by getting two strikeouts around a walk and then getting a ground out to end the game.

Tyler Markovic took the loss for the Hatters. Starter Zach Prendergast struck out 5 and walked 1 while allowing 6 hits and 3 runs, 2 earned in 5 innings of work.
