Baseball: Hatters Defeat Cheltenham

Hatboro-Horsham High School's baseball team won Friday's 10-inning game.

The Hatboro-Horsham Hatters (7-6 overall, 5-4 SOL Continental) got a strong relief performance from senior Tyler Markovic and a walk-off hit by sophomore Kevin Barron to lead them to a 10-inning 6-5 victory over the visiting Cheltenham Panthers (8-4 overall, 7-2 SOL American).

Markovic threw five shutout innings allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out five. His work allowed the Hatters to climb back in the game. The Hatters scored two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 5. The tying run was scored by Ryan Kelly on Mike Maimone's sac fly to left field.

Chris Crookham walked to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning and advanced to second on Chris Naiberk's sac bunt. Barron then hit a ball in the gap to win it for the Hatters.

For the Hatters, Naiberk was 2-3 with two walks and Zach Brenner was 2-4 with an RBI and a walk.

For the Panthers, Brett Bernstein was 2-6 with a run and Matt Lawlor was 2-4 with two runs, two RBI and two doubles. Marshall Salem had a double and an RBI.
