Whiz Kid - Meet Jihye "Alexis" Chun

Hatboro-Horsham High School senior leaves her mark on a local elementary school.

At 19 Jihye “Alexis” Chun likes to try new things when it comes to testing her artistic skills. Alexis wanted to leave a mark with her senior project, so she decided to create and paint a wall mural for one of the elementary schools.

“I always wanted to paint a mural because when I take the subway to Philadelphia I see a lot of murals," she said. "It was a good opportunity to do a bigger project."

Alexis would ride her bike for about 20 minutes to and from Blair Mill Elementary School on a regular basis to complete her project. Sketching out and painting the mural took Alexis about 25 hours.

She hopes to continue on the artistic path by attending college and pursuing a Bachelors degree in fine arts.

“I’m interested in illustration and 3-D animation or movie effects. I would like to get a job working in an animation studio or a large company like Pixar,” Alexis said.

Alexis volunteers her time working with the National Art Honor Society doing face painting with elementary school students. She and other NAHS students will be painting another mural at the Simmons Elementary school next month.

When not painting, Alexis likes to write stories in both English and Korean, chat on-line with her friends and doodle in her sketchbook.
