Fort Washington, Pa – It was never really a contest as Upper Dublin (6-1) defeated Hatboro Horsham (3-3) 62-18 to advance to Thursday’s championship game of the Cardinal Classic Invitational.
The Lady Cardinals controlled play from nearly the opening tip, despite missing an easy lay-up in the game’s first possession. The Hatters and Chrissy James took advantage of the missed Cardinal bucket, opening the scoring with a two-point field goal of their own.
Upper Dublin responded to the James’ basket with a 7-0 run, establishing a lead that it would not relinquish.

Led by the creative play of point guard Cutrena Goff, the home team was able to survive a physical first quarter with a ten-point lead.
Lady Cardinal coach Vince Catanzaro said, “We knew it was going to be a physical game no-matter what, and our girls were mentally prepared for that.”

The preparation grew more obvious in the second quarter as Upper Dublin utilized ferocious defense and relentless offensive rebounding to increase the lead to 30 points. Horsham was able to muster just a singe Tori Waddington bucket during the frame.
The Lady Cardinals outscored its opponent 22-2 during the second period, including nine points from Patch Player of the Game Taylor Bryant.
Picking up the second half the way it ended the first, Upper Dublin started the third quarter with a 12-0 run, extending its lead to 51-9. With a running clock in place for the remainder of the contest, the Lady Cardinals were able to make hasty work of the Hatters.
Cardinal forward Jen Myers scored all nine of her points during the third quarter, receiving high praise from Coach Catanzaro after the game, “It was nice to see Jen Myers get some nice points in there because she doesn’t get to shoot that much; she does all of the dirty work usually.”
With a running clock and mainly bench players on the court in the fourth quarter, the Lady Cardinals added three more buckets, including four points from sophomore Jackie Lillo.
In the win, all thirteen Lady Cardinal players saw game action; something that Coach Catanzaro says is going to be very important as the season rolls on, “You need everybody. We need more than five kids out there playing, and we have the kids that can get out there and play and I was happy with what they did.”
Now 6-1 on the young season, Upper Dublin faces a tough test Thursday when it takes on Villa Joseph Marie at 5:00PM for the Cardinal Classic championship.
