School District Applies for 60-Acre Tract at Air Base

If land transfer is approved, Hatboro-Horsham would need to build a school on the property within 30 years

Hatboro-Horsham School District formalized its intent to vie for a 60-acre parcel amid the 892 acres up for grabs at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base. 

During its meeting Monday, the board unanimously approved submitting a proposal to the Horsham Land Reuse Authority

Tuesday is the deadline for all land request submissions. Besides the school district,  has expressed an interest in acquiring the base's existing firehouse, land for parks, as well as roads that surround the massive 1,100-acre property.  is expected to apply for park space and an additional 450 to 550 acres containing the air strip, although officials have said the county is not interested in operating an airport.
