Pennypack Elementary Still Without Power

Hatboro-Horsham School District hopes to be able to return all students to school on Friday.

Thursday marked the first day back to school for most of Hatboro-Horsham School District

"Today was a very good day overall," Hatboro-Horsham School District Superintendent Curtis Griffin told Patch. "Our attendance was really not off from what it would normally be."

Parent Christina Guzikowski Sharkey wrote on Patch's Facebook page that she was happy the kids were able to return to school.

"Long weekend and half without power," she wrote. "It was time."

Except for students from Hallowell and Pennypack elementary schools district students returned to their respective classrooms on Thursday. Because of power outages, those schools were not able to reopen on Thursday.

As of 3:05 p.m. Thursday, Griffin said the power had just been restored to Hallowell and staff needed to check systems and "make sure everything is activated" before determining for certain that the school could reopen on Friday.

Griffin said PECO crews informed him that Pennypack would have its power restored later Thursday, in time for that school to reopen on Friday too. But, by 10:30 p.m. Thursday, he said power had not yet been restored and the school would need to remain closed on Friday.
