KV Helps Chorus Stay 'Young@Heart'

Keith Valley Middle School's chorus sings, laughs and bonds with senior citizen singers.

Sixth-graders and senior senior citizens found some common ground at Keith Valley Middle School Monday morning: Their voices.

Members of the school's chorus joined the 30-member Young@Heart chorus–whose youngest members are in their early 70s–on risers in the school's auditorium to sing, laugh and bond inter-generationally.

"I think they get perspective in that singing is not something that leaves you," Mindy Rubinlicht, the school's music director, said of the lunch and singing session made available by the Hatboro-Horsham Educational Foundation. "It's forever and it's easy. It's ageless."

Student chorus members, who Rubinlicht said were chosen randomly to participate, were partnered up with a specific member of Young@Heart.

Monday's impromptu jam session, which included holiday staples alongside a Michael Jackson hit, followed Sunday's Young@Heart concert on Sunday, which HHEF Nancy DeLucia staffer said drew roughly 450 people.
