Keith Valley's Physical Education Program Wins Back-to-Back Honors

For two consecutive years, gym teachers at Keith Valley Middle School have been selected as physical education teacher of the year award winners.

After proving in May he was the best in the southeastern district region, Keith Valley Middle School physical education teacher Angelo Lafratta took top honors statewide.

Lafratta, a Keith Valley Middle School gym teacher of nine years, has been selected as the 2013 Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award recipient for Pennsylvania.

The award comes on the heels of the honor Lafratta received in May after being chosen as winner of the same award in the southeastern district region.

His colleagues nominated Lafratta for the annual award, which is given to qualifying educators who demonstrate in-depth knowledge, practical application and contribute to the profession. Nominations are received from educators at all levels of primary, secondary, and collegiate education.

Lafratta, who teaches sixth- through eighth-grades at Keith Valley, said he was humbled and "thrilled" to win the award and honored that colleagues nominated him.

“To have even been nominated is an incredible event me, and I believe that this award reflects not only my hard work, but also that of my colleagues and the administration that supports our work," Lafratta said in a press release issued by the school district.

This is the second consecutive year that a Keith Valley physical education teacher has won the award. Last year, Eric Shea won the top honor.

Lafratta will be recognized on Nov. 22 during the annual convention for the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
