Hatboro-Horsham OKs $160K Technology Equipment Purchase

The Hatboro-Horsham School Board approved the purchase of technology equipment, including 225 computers, to launch a hybrid education effort.

Hatboro-Horsham School District moved a step closer to "leveraging technology" to deliver online instruction in 16 classrooms this school year as part of a hybrid learning pilot program.

The Hatboro-Horsham School Board this week approved the $160,000 purchase of technology equipment–including 225 personal computers, as well as furniture and wireless service–to launch the district's "blended" learning initiative.

In all, 16 district classrooms will incorporate digital instruction via computer with face-to-face teaching. According to the implementation costs sheet included in the board's packet, the pilot program will be rolled out in six Hatboro-Horsham High School classrooms; four Keith Valley Middle School classrooms; two classrooms each at Pennypack and Hallowell elementary schools; and one Simmons Elementary classroom.

A grant from the state helped to fund the program, David Weber, Hatboro-Horsham's curriculum co-director, said previously. The district will spend approximately $238,000 from monies being reallocated from professional development funds to help cover the program costs, Superintendent Curtis Griffin said last month.
