Be a Part of the Conversation

HATBORO-HORSHAM SCHOOL DISTRICT INVITES THE COMMUNITY TO A FORUM ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE WARNING SIGNS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND HOW TO HELP OTHERS AT THE MAY 2 “BE A PART OF THE CONVERSATION” EVENT

HORSHAM — Understanding the warning signs of substance abuse and how to effectively communicate with your child if there is a problem will be the topic of the next “Be a Part of the Conversation” event, where the Hatboro-Horsham School District is inviting the community to a discussion about the choices children and young adults in the community are making. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 in the Horsham Township Community Center — located behind the township building — 1025 Horsham Road.

There will be two unique sessions led by facilitators during the “Conversation Forum” that are designed to facilitate interaction among the attendees: The first conversation will deal with how to recognize and detect the warning signs of substance and alcohol use; and the second will equip them with the essential tools to communicate the right message to those in need. The purpose of the “Conversation Forum” is to engage in realistic and productive conversations that will lead to improved communication, dialogue and support.

“Be a Part of the Conversation” is a drug and alcohol awareness initiative that began in the Hatboro-Horsham School District in May 2011. The mission of this initiative is to work collaboratively with the community to create effective, culture-changing programs that are designed to heighten awareness of the effects of drug and alcohol use, abuse and addiction, while also supporting students in their efforts to develop healthy choices and reject drugs and alcohol.
