An Anniversary to Remember Heroes

Hallowell Elementary School students will don red, white and blue and mark the solemn anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks by learning about heroes.

They aren’t old enough to remember the September 11 terrorist attacks and most weren’t even born when two planes were purposely flown into the World Trade Center, forever changing life as Americans know it.

Still, students at are marking the solemn occasion with lessons on heroes. School Principal Steve Glaize is using pages from author Ellen Sabin’s “The Hero Book: Learning Lessons from the People You Admire” to get students thinking about people who are important to them.

“This is also a time for us to remember and thank the heroes in our lives everyday – such as your parents, your teachers, and the police officers and firefighters in our community,” Glaize wrote in an announcement about the lesson.
