2 Hatters Win Leadership Conference Awards

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology students earned 60 top awards during a leadership conference recently. Two Hatboro-Horsham High School students were among the award recipients.

Thirty Eastern Center for Arts and Technology students–including two from Hatboro-Horsham High School–earned 60 awards during a recent leadership conference. 

Held at the Pocono Manor Resort the annual District 2 Career and Technical Student Organization's Leadership Conference featured more than 200 students from seven different technical centers from Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery counties.

SkillsUSA is a national student leadership organization that encourages students to be productive individuals. Eastern students achieved 25 gold first place awards, 17 second place awards, and 18 third place awards.

First place:

  • 30 Second Speech – Nydia Broomer, Commercial Art/Abington High School. 
  • Notebook – Sarah Welch, Commercial Art/Upper Moreland High School; Juan Paolo Figueras, Computer Network Administration/Springfield High School; Scott Smethers, Welding Technology/Jenkintown High School; Stephen Berkowitz, Computer Network Administration/Jenkintown High School; Robin Gabage, Commercial Art/Jenkintown High School; Christine Fariss, Culinary Arts/Springfield High School. 
  • Leadership Cole Hevener, Electrical Technology, Hatboro-Horsham High School; Victoria Skrot, Cosmetology/Abington High School; Danyelle Sanders, Culinary Arts/Springfield High School; Kristopher Gerhardt, HVAC/Cheltenham High School. 
  • Minute to Win It – Juan Paolo Figueras, Computer Network Administration/Springfield High School; Donovan Calhoun, Culinary Arts/Upper Dublin High School. 
  • Pin Design – Josh Holm, Commercial Art/Upper Moreland High School.

Third place:

  • Notebook Ashley Hoover, Commercial Art/Hatboro-Horsham High School; Morgan-Victoria Johnson, Cosmetology/Springfield High School; Anthony Davis, Collision Repair Technology/Cheltenham High School; Elisabeth Gruber, Cosmetology/Abington High School; Leslie Ramirez, Office Management/Springfield High School; Michael Brower, Construction Technology/Springfield High School. 

Sarah Welch, 2013 – 2014 Pennsylvania State Officer, was recognized for her work in support in planning and delivering another successful conference. Stephen Kubler was recognized for being Eastern’s outstanding conference student representative.
