Donald Trump said Tuesday that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is "one email away from a disaster," as a result of the ongoing "Bridgegate" scandal.

"He's a friend of mine. He's a good guy. But you know, he's one email away from a disaster," Trump said while speaking at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. "I just don't know what's going to happen.

"It was bad for him," he continued. "It didn't make sense, and he said strongly he didn't know anything about it. The thing is, he's fired four or five people. I don't know what they're going to say. It's a very scary situation for Chris. We'll see how he handles it. It's really a question that won't be able to be answered probably for a year. It's a tough situation for him no question about it."

Later, when asked about prospective 2016 Republican presidential candidates, Trump said he would have thought Christie was "doing well," but now "it's going to be a lot tougher on him."
