Tremors From Virginia Earthquake Felt in Montgomery, Bucks Counties

The U.S. Geological Survey reports the epicenter of 5.9 magnitude earthquake took place four miles from Louisa, Va. at 1:51 p.m. Tuesday.

Tremors lasting roughly 10 seconds were felt throughout our region and the Northeast portion of the country after an earthquake struck in Virginia.

Louisa, Va. is located more than 250 miles from Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Still, residents in Horsham and surrounding communities felt movement.

"I think we just experienced a small earthquake in Horsham," wrote resident Peter Steiert in an e-mail to Patch. "At 1:54 p.m. the cords to my electric fan (off) started to move back and forth and I could feel the chair I was sitting in move side to side."

Horsham Township reported feeling a tremor "which shook most buildings."

Early reports determined that there were no injuries or damages in the area or region stemming from the earthquake. Cell phones have been reported to be inoperable in certain areas though.
