Route 202 Parkway Set to Open Dec. 3

The $200 million Parkway will have a 40mph limit and feature 12-foot-wide shared-use bike and pedestrian pathways

After many years of construction, and numerous traffic restrictions for new guardrails, traffic signalization, sound walls and the like, the $200 million U.S. Route 202 Parkway will open to traffic Monday, Dec. 3.

The 8.4-mile Parkway, according to PennDOT, is a direct route from Montgomeryville to Doylestown, beginning at Route 63 near Stump Road and ending at Route 611.

“We look forward to opening Pennsylvania’s newest roadway as the Route 202 Parkway will provide additional transportation capacity and enhance travel along this congested corridor in Montgomery and Bucks counties,” PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said in a statement.

The Parkway boasts four 11-foot-wide travel lanes (two in each direction), between Route 63/Welsh Road and Route 463 in Montgomery County, and two 11-foot-wide travel lanes (one in each direction) from Route 463 to Route 611.

The limit for the entire Parkway will be 40 mph.

In addition, there are 12-foot-wide shared-use bike and pedestrian paths, with 19 access points along the route.

Five trailhead parking areas will be along the route at the following locations: Knapp Road, Route 309, Stump Road, Bristol Road and New Britain Road.

Don't know about others, but I drive using maps, not scenic photos, descriptions and PennDoT publicity. Without an obvious link to a map what earthly use is this article?

Sadly, it's a road built 30 years too late, two lanes too few, and a few mph too slow.

I agree! We have enough parks to ride bikes! This was all to appease the AH that voted against this for the last 20 years! glad to have it, but what a waste at 40 MPH- thank the community for that one

The bike paths aren't to replace park riding, Nancy, they're so people can commute safely via bicycle if they wish.

Jerry, If I understand correctly, the lights are sync'd for 40 mph so with a little luck you ought not have to stop too much. Sunny day scenario: the full length will take you less than 13 minutes. (fingers crossed!). There are bike lanes integrated with the car lanes and additionally, physically separated lanes for walkers. Perhaps in future, the intersecting roads will get more forgiving shoulders as well. Were that so, you could ride your bike to more cool destinations (in addition to Costco). This building block makes a "bike friendly future" so much more possible. I had no part in clamoring for this, however I am extremely pleased with the outcome. Best,
