Pro Football Team Hopes to Practice in Hatboro

Also, the owners of the Hatboro Lofts hope to present final improvement plans to council at the next voting meeting.

It was announced at Monday night’s meeting that the Philadelphia Soul arena football team is hoping to hold a “Town Takeover” event at Miller Meadow in Hatboro on June 23.

Borough Manager Steven Plaugher and members of the recently met with team officials at the meadow along York Road to discuss details of the takeover.

The team wants to hold a full-gear practice event at the grass-covered meadow. It would also feature the Soul’s mascot, Soulman, and the team’s dancers. Players and dancers would be available for autographs after the practice session, according to Plaugher and the team.

The Soul have offered to pay for any overtime cost incurred by the borough’s public safety departments and, in addition, has agreed to pay the $750 park escrow fee, the borough manager said.

In addition to bringing a fun and free activity to Hatboro, Plaugher said the event would bring positive exposure to the downtown district.

The Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce is supporting the event and is asking the borough to waive the park rental fee, Plaugher told the council.

The event’s application and the issue of waiving the rental fee will be voted on during the next council voting meeting on May 22.

In other business, condo complex attorney Mike Carr provided an update to the council on . He stated a formal application for approval would be presented at the borough voting meeting in two weeks.

The owners of Hatboro Lofts hope to place six decorative crosswalks around their property. They also plan to install several electronic pedestrian crossing signs and a permanent paved parking lot at the former Robert Mander Stove Works facility, Carr said.

When asked by council members what will happen to the rusty water tower, which is on property proposed for parking for the lofts, Carr reported that his clients hope to paint it but that depends on whether they have the funds to do so.

During the subcommittee reports, Councilman Bob Hegele told the council that Hatboro residents can expect to be in their mailbox in the next several weeks.

The newsletter layout is finished and later this week it will be sent to Perkasie-based Hometown Press to be printed and mailed, the councilman said.
