Meet, Mingle, Mardi Gras

Horsham officials hope to bring the community together with zydeco music, Cajun-inspired food and camraderie.

Sometimes we become better acquainted with our neighbors on vacation than we do the folks who have lived three doors down from us for years, mused Horsham Township Police Chief Robert Ruxton.

"Let's get to know everybody," Ruxton urged about 100 Horsham-area business owners during a luncheon last month.

That may be easier with the upcoming , which is being put on with collaboration from Ruxton, Horsham Township and the Greater Horsham Chamber of Commerce.

The evening of music, food and fun is designed to bring together everyone with a stake in Horsham.

“People have lived and worked in the township for years and have never met those who keep Horsham running,” said Ruxton in a press release. Ruxton and his wife, Mary Beth, are co-chairing the event, which will be held on Feb. 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Manor House at Commonwealth, 300 Tournament Drive, Horsham. “We want people to know who’s making the decisions that affect their lives and businesses.”

Greater Horsham Chamber of Commerce President Jo-Anne Zapata said one of the chamber’s roles is to help businesses – and other segments of the greater Horsham community - connect.

“We’re inviting everyone to mingle and munch," Zapata said in the release. "It will be a party no one will want to miss!”

The event offers a cash bar, valet parking, zydeco music by “The Untouchables,” raffle baskets, and food stations with a Cajun flair. The menu will include creamy spiced corn and potato bisque; Bayou seafood cakes with roasted pepper aioli; roasted chicken and chorizo jambalaya; Cajun cornmeal dusted tilapia po boys; Creole vegetable and braised beef stew with beef boulettes; and for dessert, Southern Comfort peach cobbler and assorted nut pralines.

Cost is $35. For more information, or to make reservations, see the Patch event listing .
