Horsham Gets Funding Boost for Kohler Park

The township was awarded a $144,500 grant to help cover a $300,000 improvement project.

New playground equipment and a pavilion will be installed by late summer 2012, according to Horsham Township Manager Bill Walker. New restrooms, as well as the installation of public water and sewer and a drinking fountain at the will follow in 2013, he said.

All new features will be ADA compliant and will use environmental best management practices.

Much of the estimated $300,000 project will be funded by a $144,500 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. to raising and contributing $75,000 and Horsham Township plans to chip in the remaining $80,500.

"This project will encourage more of our residents to interact with nature and enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle, while enhancing our natural environment,” Walker said in a press release.

DCNR is the primary source of state support for Pennsylvania recreation, parks, and conservation initiatives. Grant funding from DCNR assists hundreds of communities and organizations across Pennsylvania to plan, acquire and develop recreation and park facilities, create trails, and conserve open space.

“Our grant investments work to bolster our vision for the health of our families, the vibrancy of our communities, the strength of our economy, and our quality of life in Pennsylvania,“ DCNR Deputy Secretary Cindy Dunn said in the release.  “These grants allow us to partner with communities so that they can expand and improve the wonderful assets that make the places we call home vibrant and attractive.”
