Hatboro Welcomes New Borough Manager

Steven Plaugher will take over as borough manager with a $75,000 salary.

The Hatboro Borough Council voted unanimously — and enthusiastically — Monday night to approve the hiring of a new borough manager.

New borough manager Steven Plaugher will take the reins effective Tuesday at a salary of $75,000.

Council interviewed 44 candidates for the position, a search launched after former manager in March and was brought on in an interim position. McCauley will remain in a consulting role through Friday, with a maximum of 12 working hours.

“We interviewed many candidates, and I want to thank the council members for their time and efforts,” council president Marianne Reymer said.

Plaugher most recently served as assistant borough manager of Downingtown, where he lives, but his position was eliminated in December due to budgetary restrictions.

He said he was “very impressed” by what he saw from borough residents and elected officials during the time he spent in Hatboro through the interview process. Plaugher said he is committed to conducting his office with transparency.

“I’m really looking forward to working with everyone here in Hatboro, because this is a team effort,” he said. “Obviously I’ll be working alongside the mayor, council members and my staff, but also with members of the public. My door will always be open — residents can come in, call me, and I’ll return their calls as soon as I can. We have a lot of work to do, but we’re heading in the direction and we’ll do that together.”

Plaugher, who holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, dedicated his career to public service, retiring from the Downingtown Police Department in 2008 with the rank of lieutenant.

He also recently served as executive director of the Downingtown-Thorndale Chamber of Commerce, a position he resigned from to take on the Hatboro position.

The council concurrently approved Plaugher to serve in the roles of borough secretary and Right to Know Officer.
