Hatboro Pushes to Finish Road Paving

The Hatboro Borough Council on Monday night authorized advertisement of bid solicitation for its 2012 road paving program.

With any luck, Jefferson and Corinthian avenues in Hatboro will be freshly paved before Old Man Winter strikes.

At least that's the hope of the Hatboro Borough Council, which on Monday night authorized advertisement of its 2012 road paving program. Because of ongoing Aqua water main work, officials said this year's project has been delayed and scaled back.

"We hope to award it at the October committee meeting," Council President John Zygmont said during Monday night's meeting. "We’re really up against the wall."

The governing body is awaiting road paving bids for Jefferson Avenue from County Line Road to Corinthian Avenue. The project would also include Corinthian Avenue except for where the roadway intersects with Warminster Road, according to Councilman Bill Tompkins.

Zygmont said the borough typically budgets between $180,000 and $200,000 per year for paving, adding that this year's work would likely cost about half of that amount.

The remaining roadways that had been originally part of this year's paving program will be done in 2013, Zygmont said. Those roads include Bank Street, the intersection of Horsham, Moreboro and Academy roads and the former Wachovia Bank parking lot.
