Hatboro Names Public Works Building After Long-time Employee

The council this week renamed the building, located at Oakdale and Meadowbrook avenues, "The W. Robert Stauch Public Works Building."

He’s put out fires, led borough works crews, ensured borough properties are up to code, and organized emergency response on various levels.

Bob Stauch, prior to his death in November, had served Hatboro in practically every capacity imaginable during his more than 50 years of service in roles varying from life member and former fire chief to Public Works superintendent.

To honor the lifelong Hatboro resident’s commitment to his community, the borough council this week approved a resolution to rename its Public Works building “The W. Robert Stauch Public Works Building.”

Current Public Works Superintendent Fred Zollers, who recently stepped into Stauch’s previous role as the borough’s emergency management coordinator, said Stauch was the reason he’s continued working for the borough for so long. Initially, Zollers said he set out to work for Hatboro during the summer while home from college. Once he graduated, Zollers said Stauch offered him a job until he found something else. And, 16 years later, Zollers, to his former boss’ credit, still hasn’t found other work.

“He was a good guy to work for,” Zollers said. “He was always concerned about all the employees.”

But, it was Stauch’s knowledge – “about everything Hatboro” – that Zollers found particularly helpful.

“He was a wealth of information,” Zollers said.
