Hatboro Expects to Pave Fewer Roads

The cost of work on Bank Street will determine how many roads Hatboro is able to pave this year.

Better milled and paved roads could be coming to a Hatboro street near you this year.

The Hatboro Borough Council, during its recent meeting, outlined roads it would like to repave and mill this year, but how many can be redone is dependent on the total cost of ongoing work repaving of the 150-space parking lot behind the former Wachovia Bank and the rebuilding of Bank Street.

The council voted to advertise bids to mill and pave the following roads: East Montgomery Avenue from Jacksonville Road to Moreland Avenue; James Road near York Road to the borough line; South Penn Street between Moreland Avenue and Byberry Road; Bonair Avenue between Summit Avenue and Penn Street to house No. 246. The latter group of roads would also be tarred and chipped, according to Councilman David Rich.

Borough Manager Fred Zollers said bids would be awarded following the council's next regular meeting on Sept. 23. Work would be carried out this year before it gets too cold, Zollers said.

To pave East Montgomery Avenue from Jacksonville Road to Moreland Avenue and James Road near York Road to the borough line it is expected to cost $86,955, according to figures that Rich provided.

The work proposed for South Penn Street between Moreland Avenue and Byberry Road; Bonair Avenue between Summit Avenue and Penn Street to house No. 246 is expected to cost $83,120.13, Rich said.

The total for all roads is anticipated at $170,075.13, he said.

"We wouldn't have enough to do all of that," Zollers said.
