H-H Upkeeps Limekiln Simmons While Deciding its Fate

Hatboro-Horsham School District officials said vandalism occurred recently at the former Simmons Elementary School.

Keep it, or sell it for a buck.

Those are Hatboro-Horsham School District’s options in terms of the 10.5-acre parcel which houses the shuttered Limekiln Simmons School, which is located on Limekiln Pike in Horsham. The district and Horsham Township have had an option agreement in place for 20 years.

The latest renewal of the pact expires on Aug. 17, 2013 and district officials said this week that they will decide by then what to do with the property, which recently endured some vandalism, according to Bob Reichert, the district’s director of business affairs.

“It was vandalism that wasn’t isolated to that building because it was empty,” Reichert said, adding that other property damage was reported nearby. “We’re keeping the building as sightly as possible. We’re trying to keep the grass mowed in the visible areas.”

Reichert said the upkeep costs are “very minimal” and that everything inside has been shut down.

The district had been using the building for its special education offices and pre-school until last year when the roof started leaking.
