From Deviled Eggs to a Daredevil Aviator

Lots of things to mark your hump day.

1. Today is National Deviled Egg Day, so to commemorate this auspicious occasion pick your favorite recipe. Personally, I like mine plain with a slight sprinkle of paprika. Others are more adventurous.

2. Speaking of adventurous, on this day in 1947 billionaire aviator/Hollywood movie producer/aircraft designer Howard Hughes had a devil of a time convincing the U.S. Congress that money spent on the H-4 (aka the “Spruce Goose” or The Hercules) was not a waste. Hughes proved that to thousands of onlookers on by flying 70 feet off the water for a mile in Long Beach Harbor, Calif. It was the first and only flight of the aircraft.
