Billboards Coming to Horsham?

A double-sided billboard has been proposed for Easton Road.

Billboards are permitted on portions of three roads in Horsham Township. But, whether dual-sided billboards are allowed at all is still up in the air.

Premier Media has submitted plans which call for the installation of a double-sided 10-feet by 30-feet billboard along the right of way at 1198 Easton Road where a U-Haul is currently located.

As proposed, the steel structure would have two billboard faces, one stationary face and one digital face featuring LED changeable message/copy that would be lit from dusk to midnight.

The Horsham Township Council this week reviewed the zoning hearing board application, according to Township Manager Bill Walker. While a decision was not made, Walker said the township does not believe a V-shaped billboard is permitted under the billboard ordinance that the governing body adopted last year.

Under the local law, 300 square feet is the maximum billboard size. The applicant's plan calls for a 300-square-foot billboard on each side.

"A sign is one side," Walker said.

Township attorney Mary Eberle is in discussion with the applicant in hopes of resolving the matter, according to Walker. Patch was unsuccessful in reaching Eberle for comment.

The applicant is scheduled to go before the Horsham Zoning Hearing Board on Nov. 12, but Walker said the application may be postponed while officials work through what is allowed under the ordinance.

Horsham permits billboards on sections of County Line Road, Easton Road, and Route 309. The proposed billboard for Easton Road would be the township's first, Walker said.
