Sobriety Checkpoints Slated for Holiday Weekend

The Pennsylvania State Police will be out in force over the holiday weekend.

The Pennsylvania State Police will be out conducting sobriety checkpoints through Monday in portions of Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

This enforcement period will coincide with the Operation Combined Accident Reduction Enforcement (C.A.R.E.) Independence Day enforcement period. During this time, additional efforts will be made to ensure motorist safety. 

During the 2012 Independence Day holiday weekend, troopers in Troop K investigated 94 crashes which resulted in 25 injuries and one fatality. Of those crashes, seven were alcohol related, according to the state police.

Troopers in Troop K issued 945 citations, with 490 of that total being for speeding and 60 being for seatbelt or child safety seat violations. In all, 23 motorists were arrested for DUI, according to police. 

Troop K covers areas of Philadelphia, Montgomery and Delaware Counties.
