Police Search for Suspected Bank Robber

The Huntingdon Valley branch of Wachovia Bank was robbed Tuesday afternoon; suspect flees to Philadelphia on foot

Upper Moreland Police are searching for a white male suspected of robbing the Wachovia Bank in the Marketplace in Huntingdon Valley at 1:15 p.m. today.

Police Chief Thomas Nestel said the suspect fled the bank, which is located at 2090 E. County Line Road, with an unverified amount of money in what was described as an older, green Dodge work van.

Twenty to 25 minutes after the bank robbery, Bryn Athyn Chief of Police Glenn Coffin saw the van traveling east-bound along Byberry Road, according to Nestel.

Coffin attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect sped away, with Coffin in hot pursuit.

The car chase ended in the Philmont Heights section of Philadelphia, where the suspect was able to lose his pursuant and abandon his vehicle, further fleeing on foot.

The Abington Township Police K-9 unit was dispatched for the following manhunt, but the suspect has not been apprehended, Nestel said. 

The vehicle was recovered on Lawler Street, near Bustleton Avenue, in Philadelphia, and taken to Upper Moreland Police Department for processing.
