Police Nab Men in Alleged 7-Eleven Knifepoint Robberies

Upper Moreland police helped capture the suspects early Tuesday morning, after a robbery of the Horsham and, minutes later, the Hatboro convenience stores.

Two men face charges of armed robbery after allegedly robbing at least two separate 7-Eleven convenience stores early Tuesday morning.

Joshua Karas, 22, no fixed address, and Nathan A. Harbort, 22, of Schwenksville, were arraigned Tuesday before District Justice Paul Leo on armed robbery and related theft charges and have been detained at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.

According to police, at 3:26 a.m. Tuesday, officers from the were dispatched to a silent panic alarm at the 7-Eleven store, 255 Horsham Road.

The on-duty clerk said a white male had entered the store wearing a ski mask and armed with a knife. Police said the man ordered the clerk to open the cash register and then removed an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then took the money and some cigarettes and fled out the front doors toward Dresher Road and Central Avenue.

Then, at 3:42 a.m. Tuesday, the received a panic alarm from the 7-Eleven store located at 1 North York Road. The clerk shared a similar account and description as the clerk from the Horsham location, police said.

The clerk at the Hatboro store told police that the white male approached him, put the knife in his back and asked where the register was, demanding that it be opened. Police said the suspect then removed money and fled the store toward York Road.

The suspect's description was broadcast over police radio. An Upper Moreland police officer saw a silver Honda Civic traveling north on Warminster Road. The vehicle was occupied by two white males fitting the above description.

Police said the vehicle fled north into the parking lot of an office building in the area of Warminster and County Line Roads. The vehicle stopped at the end of the parking lot and the driver fled.

Police said the occupant of the vehicle was detained and identified as Nathan Harbort. During an extensive K-9 search of the area, the driver of the vehicle was located walking around the area and was identified as Joshua Karas.

Before to the 7-Eleven robberies in Hatboro and Horsham this morning, that similar knifepoint convenience store robberies took place earlier this month in New Britain Borough and , as well as last month throughout portions of Upper Bucks County and Montgomery County.

Hatboro Police Sgt. Cameron Goold said the connection between this morning's robberies and the others is probable.

"We’re looking into it," Goold said of the possible connection.
